Newbie questoin about soccer spreads

On Pinnalce they have a soccer lines displayed the following way:

For Spread:
Arsenal -1.5 and -2
West Brom +1.5 and +2

And then a Total on anther game displayed:

OVER 2.5 and 3

How can this be? Why dont the just have the total at 3 and spread at 2?

I don't get it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Soccer Spread Explanation

Explanation as follows:

If you wanted to wager $100 on Arsenal, $50 would be at -1.5 goals and $50 would be at -2 goals. In essence, your bet is split into 2 bets. Therefore, to win the full $100 (assuming an even money line) Arsenal would have to win by 3 goals. If they win by 2 goals, you push on $50 and win on the other $50.

Same principle on the total, bet is split into 2 wagers.
